ideas, observations
hey everyone !
Ive been a passive player and a really passive forum reader. I played gw for some time with one of the greatest yet passed guilds from GW - Rus-Corp[RUS] and left the game as soon as the majority of the guilds roster left GW in search for somethin else. Time went on and paradoxicaly i've returned to this game's first chapter, since thats the only one i had by that time, and i'm still impressed that despite 3 more chapters i can play GW using only one chapter.
I'd like to share some of my observations about the gameplay difference of playin only with 1 chapter and overall observations.
Now i realized why i like gw. Its a good platform on which u can sculpt pvp and pve action - technically and graphically. Im reffering to it as a platform because Ultima Online is also a platform on which u can do that despite its outdated graphical and scripting engine but less people play even though it was a great game at the time of its domination.
(You may find diffculty understanding what i've written. Dont panic/get mad im still experimenting my english. The point is - understanding the idea, a glimpse of a picture, thats all.)
So as i remeber the first arena in ascalon city some time ago was crowded like sh**, constant pvp-eing, ppl getting to experiment their first builds. Nowadays, wind blows there, though there are a lot of alts or newly created characters that seek to unlock skills in that area, which makes gw's first chapter like a transit area, and more of that the arena is really unusefull since u cant gather 8 ppl to play it from 3 big regions (asia, europe, us), the same situation has the second arena in the mountain area. So why players bother at all buying the first chapter, not for the quests and mission anymore but for the classes and skill/item unlocking. So my sugestion is - creating an arena with a boss with or without a group of creeps around that has on him random skills searched in missions and runes and unlockable stuff like that + faction points that u can spend in case the boss doesnt drop the skill u search and add to that 2 to 4 competing teams. Since GW is mostly a PvP oriented game, it would attract and crowd such types of arenas with a bigger amount of people seeking skillz and unlockable items, plus it would prepare people to get ready for such epic arenas as the HoH and alliance wars.
Because of such a change nothing in the quest/mission system would change as far as drop rates of rare items remain the same. Low lvl arenas would provide u the skills met in the low lvl areas, and if u are allrdy a lvl 20 player u can buy the skill via blathazar faction points later in the game. If u play solo and u like the fast pased pvp game from the low lvl u can start "farming" ure skills and items this way. And yes, i dont get it by now who is capturing simple skillz that u can get via balthazar from Boss monsters since it gives u less xp and you can find simple skillz doing quests or doing arena battles. I havent played other chapters so i dont know whats about the where and how other low lvl classes get their skills and the crowd lvl but the method i described somehow must imply the connection of low lvl arenas.
Anyway those arenas are PUG based and not always u get in a fight with only faction like or nightfall like characters, so if the system drops a skill/item from the factions or nightfall chapter u just wont unlock it, which seems fair, since u'll be facing fights where a boss monster on the arena drops skills/items u're not intterested in like if u play warior u get an ele unlock (really random stuff) which doesnt raise much questions about how fair on unfair this is. U can also add low lvl arena stats with starter cities competing for domination which would sound like prophecies ascalon city is having the favor of bla bla, that could grant you +2-10 (depending on the favor lenghts) morale boost on that terrytory, and killing boss monsters would add like +2% till 15% cap on the prophecies-nightfall terrytories since people dont get to 10% morale boost on low lvl terrytories. And it would be great to enter a mission with a morale boost of 15%, so dying wouldnt be such a pain in the a** for PUGs. Those kinds of fights would train the "fight for something feeling' from low lvl arenas.
Im over by now and ill write later what i think is usefull for the game.
PS.: im an observer of different types of games and i see people playin most of the games with the same principle. Even Dota of wc3 is the same by principle (4 skillz to advance a hero + bonus points) and has a huge popularity, wc3 being a almost "forget about it" game. No comments about action games like TF2 which use the same set of principles. I must addmit that GW by now is a mid game that would suit an mmo player and a closed pvp system type of gamer. It has everything needed - mmorpvpe so why not play it ? ppl getting the same patater only in different shapes. For me its a descent shape. The rest seem the same.
